A Color So Familiar

(Carleen McCornack)

A teacher of a message from the heart,
A carefully guided messenger designed to light the dark
And a flame began to burn when I heard the gentle words
And so began the song that Casey sang

A safe and quite doorstep of the street
Where words were heard in whispers where few would ever speak
But the silent sacred call was broken by the song
Of voices so much older than their years

Let our hair turn gray, it's a color so familiar,
Like the skies on an Oregon day.
Music like a mirror reflects the passing years,
Asking us to change and move on.

Like the ocean wave that meets the foggy shore
A gift was given innocence like no one had before
And the songs I learned to play eased my younger days
And some live on to do the same today.

Let our hair turn gray, it's a color so familiar,
Like the skies on an Oregon day.
Music like a mirror reflects the passing years,
Asking us to change and move on.

As the sun comes upon the bow and archer
It lights by far the brightest stars the Milky Way looks after
They guide us in our world to undiscovered pearls
We briefly hold then carefully set them free.

Let our hair turn gray, it's a color so familiar,
Like the skies on an Oregon day.
Music like a mirror reflects the passing years,
Asking us to change and move on.
Asking us to change and move on.
