A Road To Call Your Own

(Mike McCornack)

When you’ve walked this far
You have left a thousand footprints
Marked on every path you’ve taken
And at each turn in the road
When your steps are traced
Every road is a unique one
Though you set not out to seek one
You have made this road your own.

When you’ve come this far
With so many years behind you
And the aches and gray remind you
That you’ve traveled far from home
But from where you stand
Just a footstep will begin it
There’s a life ahead within it
And a road to call your own.

There are moments when it seems the journey has been all for naught
When it seems that every decent thing you’ve done has been forgot
Turn around and look behind you down that road

As you sing your songs
At each melody’s beginning
As each phrase is set a spinning
You will never be alone
If the song is true
To the music of the spirit
There’s a heart that’s sure to hear it
You can make that heart your own.
