Dinosaurs Sing

(Mike McCornack)

Listen to all of the dinosaurs sing,
Ta ra loo, ra loo, ta ra loo ra ling,
It’s a shame that extinction’s a permanent thing
Sing ta ra loo, ta ra ling.

Walking along down this primeval boulevard
Bones in the rocks, imprints in mud
That is older than mountains, fossilized footsteps
A fantastic Jurassic classic fandango.
A long ago dance by a dinosaur troubador
Who had no inkling, of what fate had in store
He and his dinosaur friends sang together,
But now all that’s left of the song is an echo.

[chorus]

It might have been a Friday, late in the evening
The dinosaur set out to find somewhere soft
He could lay himself down and digest his late dinner
Reflect on his week and prepare for the weekend
When suddenly out of the blue, unexpected
The mountain exploded, and magma ejected
The earth shook like jelly, the sky got all muddy
The dinosaur faced his demise with a song

[chorus]

If there’s a moral in all of this rambling tale
It’s that someday this wonderful world
May be less than an echo, dimmer than dusk
In the fast fading light of a glorious present
And one single step, a footprint away
From the regular path that we walk every day
May be all that is left, all that remains
Until some archeologist pricks up an ear and says...

[chorus twice]
