Follow The Calendar

(Mike McCornack)

At the start, there are circles of hope,
There’s a joy that is born in the spring
There are days full of beauty and nights full of love
And the confidence youthfulness brings
In the summer the fullness of life
And a lust to keep life in a spin
Then a chance to be traveling far from your home
Knowing not if you’ll come home again.

Follow the calendar, round it goes
Like a pinwheel spins in the winds that blow
Days moving by you both fast and slow
Days you may never be living again.

But the fall brings a changing of heart
Then the winter a folding of wings,
The nights, dark and growing, the days wrapped in gray
It’s the solitude wintertime brings
And it feels like we’ve been here before,
As the winter turns gently to spring
And I’m looking for color and yearning for warmth
And I’m longing to hear the birds sing.

[chorus]

The circles have life of their own
And the circles, unbroken, entwine,
The planets revolving, the seasons repeat
In a dizzying spiral of time
And from birth we are all on our way
On a spiraling path of our own
It’s a journey to find a new way round the bend
And a journey to find a way home.

[chorus]
