Sailing Song

(Carleen McCornack)

Well the wind has caught the main sail
And the water’s ‘or the lee rail
She’s rigged for what the skies may have in store
With a wise and worthy captain
We’re lively crewmen laughin’
Let’s drink to times like these and many more.

From a bay off Vashon Island
And the color of a diamond
She sailed the waters ‘round Seattle’s sound
Then she caught the eye of sailors
Who bought her up and made her
A ship that’s sure to turn your cares about.

And she glides across the water
As sure as Neptune’s daughter
With silver sails and telltales in the wind
Like a whistler swan she moves along
To keep the wind behind her
As she sings into her sails a sailing song.

May a smile be always on her
From the gods of wind and water
As she sails the sun or weathers out the storm
May the amber skies of evening
Find you sweetly dreaming
Of sunny days and friends to keep you warm.
