Snowfall Over Baldy

( Carleen McCornack)

Well there’s snowfall up on Baldy
And there’s wood smoke in the wind
The whiskers are long on my old gray tom
Got my longjohns on again
The fields are lost to the silver frost
There’s music in the winter wind
It’s the duskys’ song as they move along
Winter’s come again

You can see the weather comin’
And the clouds are movin’ in
They bring the snow and the rain we know
so well will soon begin
The leaves have turned and the fields are burned
Dark against the harvest moon
And from the autumn sky come a distant cry
Of winter’s mournful tune

Up here we need the wintertime
The arctic air and snow
To keep our timber green
And make the rivers flow
From the mountains out to sea

When December comes and the steelhead run
The fisherman go out
In the icy cold when their lines have froze
To catch those rainbowed trout
But spring’s around the corner
She will warm the winter wind
And the rivers will flow with the melted snow
And the skies are clear again.
